While studying art in school I was very inspired by the photos in art books and was especially drawn to the images of monumental sculptures which depict the dramas and stories of mythologies and tales of battle using the human form. I would wonder at the skill of the different artists and their individual stories of success in creating these monuments or other works. Artists such as Bernini, Rodin and Michelangelo are a few of these creators.

After my studies I travelled extensively finding as many of these works and more as I could to gloat over and admire. Today I am sometimes amazed when I look back over my life journey so far to see that I have managed my own story of art creating and some of the wonderful opportunities I have had. I now make monumental works for clients as well as small studies of birds, animals and human figures. I feel that I have been incredibly fortunate to have been able to pursue this career, challenging as it is, it is also very rewarding.

I was born in Durban; and spent my childhood living in various places around Southern Africa. I returned to Durban to study Fine Art, majoring in sculpture at Durban Technikon (1985-1990). During the next four years I travelled overseas: an art pilgrimage viewing as much as I could find wherever I could travel or get work.

I then once more returned to Durban determined to make a living in art. I started slowly, at first teaching private classes of drawing, painting and sculpture to adults and children. I then completed a Master’s degree in Fine Art (Cum Laude) at the Durban University of Technology in 2008. I now live and predominately make bronze sculptures in the KwaZulu Natal Midland, about a 2 hours’ drive from Durban.

I have now have been creating bronze sculptures for the past 20 years and explore a variety of subjects such as animals and birds. Figures both small and life-size as well as portrait bust monuments are especially appealing as well as a satisfactory challenge.

I am also experienced and well versed at executing commissioned tasks; from small coffee table pieces, portrait busts and monumental statues. I enjoy working closely with my client to creatively express their vision while retailing my creative essence and integrity.
