Elga Rabe grew up on a rural farm in the South African province of Mpumalanga. After studying at Teachers Training College in Durban she taught art for three years then painted full-time.
Elga sells her paintings mainly on the internet. Her very large oil paintings on canvas, around 6ft – (1.8meter) by 5ft (1.45 meter) are in great demand all over the world. She sells them unframed, easy to courier. The smallest paintings on the web are 3ft (0.9meter) by 2ft (0.6meter).
Elga’s late father was a keen big game hunter, having hunted in quite a few countries in Africa and abroad. Having being exposed to this environment from an early age, Elga developed a passion to preserve nature and wild animals. From this culmination she paints with the knowledge and passion that surpasses that of your typical artist. Apart from the African wildlife Elga also appreciates the African people in all their different cultures and loves capturing them in their traditional gear and ethnic beauty. .
Elga Rabe has taken part innumerous exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, including the following:
THE BROOKLYN ACADEMY OF MUSIC, ANTIQUARIUS GALLERY NEW YORK, NEW YORK ART EXPO, PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL BLACK ARTS FESTIVAL, CARDIFF/SOUTH AFRICAN TRADE AND DÉCOR SHOW and in 2006 an exhibition at the UNITED NATIONS IN GENEVA.
Collectors of Elga’s work include:
CHRIS TUCKER, MALCOLM HORTON, JP MORGAN (SA Bank) and THE CITY HALL IN CARDIFF.
