Kathy Kay is a contemporary artist, painting mainly in oils on canvas. Her preferred subjects are seascapes, landscapes, boat and rural scenes and wildlife – depicting the beauty of nature in all it’s forms. However, she is equally proficient in painting a wide variety of subjects. She lives in the coastal town of Shelly Beach and is inspired by the energy, changing moods and colours of the ocean and this is evident in her numerous seascapes. Her aim is to capture the atmosphere of the moment, with the influence of light playing a major role. Her colours generally, are strong and striking and her brushstroke varied, including the use of a palette knife to create form and texture.
Kathy has travelled extensively throughout South Africa and surrounding countries and has been exposed to the vibrancy and warmth of the country and it’s colourful people, which is reflected in her art. She is an imaginative and accomplished photographer and often uses her original material for subject matter.
Kathy has participated in numerous exhibitions, (including solo) and her work hangs in many homes throughout South Africa and abroad, as well as the corporate sector.
