Lute Vink

Lute Vink

Lute Vink was born in Den Helder, the Netherlands in 1961 and immigrated to South Africa with his parents at the age of 2.  At this very early stage in his life, he lost his father, who had artistic skills but unfortunately passed away before he could make art his career.

As far back as Lute can remember, he was always busy sketching and began his full time professional art career in 1989, when he discovered a market for his wildlife art.

Many paintings later, he now finds himself in the privileged position where his work is in high demand.

Internationally, one of his proudest accomplishments was illustrating (with 15 oil paintings) The Jungle Book for the British publishing company, “Art of the Imagination”.  This is a very prestigious collectors’ book with a limited edition print.  Lute was published in numerous British magazines during the launch of The Jungle Book. He was invited to the UK for the signing of the books.

One of the biggest projects he has done in South Africa was for a company, Kolomela, a mining company in South Africa, Northern Cape.  The project consisted of 44 artworks, including oils and pencil sketches.

Lute’s work is well known and appraised locally and internationally. His paintings are to be found in collections world-wide and he has been credited and published in numerous magazines and publications.

It remains a privilege and marvel for him to be able to share his extraordinary talent with people all over the world.

The artist derives great pleasure from wildlife and nature and respects every aspect thereof. His favourite pastime is visiting game parks and hiking in nature, where he not only gets his reference material from, but also finds his inspiration.

Although he is known for his excellent wildlife art, Lute also does fine art painting which includes still lives, portaits, figures and farm scenes.

Lute paints in oils. He is a realist and strives to be true to real colour, not only of the animals but also relating to the time of day or season.  When he adds details like butterflies or birds, he likes to be correct in the sense of whether such butterfly or bird may really be around at that specific time of the year.  Most of the time he creates his own scene to tell a story.

His dream to leave behind the busy city life, became a reality when he moved to the Bushveld with his family in 2002.

Lute demonstrates his love, commitment and admiration of the source of his inspiration by contributing paintings to a fundraiser auction on an annual basis.  The proceeds of the auction are donated to wildlife conservation.
